ALLI FERRARA

ARTIST STATEMENT

My brush strokes reflect the peculiar convergences heir to our world represented by plastic colors, perspective shifts, highly contrasting forms, and space. I am intrigued by place and how a multitude of separate elements can meet and create one single unexpected entity much as single tonal notes can be converged to create a song. My recent journey into the abstract asks… How does nature fit into the city sprawl and computer networked landscapes? Which one, if either, is out of place - the world we have created or the one that created us? My new work interprets the abstract global and local visions of our cities, including but not limited to the geometry of architecture, advertisements, the graphics on our computer screens and how these images entwine and simultaneously clash with the free form of nature. My investigations are composed of organic abstractions, which just like nature may seem illogical or chaotic at a glance but contain a balance and mathematical grace at their heart. These forms are lyrical to me. I respond to research and gesture’s whimsy equally, treating each surface as it’s own reality showing the created landscape’s history in a hope to gain perspective of my own.
